Microsoft Copilot is the AI assistant built into Windows 11, Microsoft Edge, and the entire Microsoft 365 suite. Powered by OpenAI's GPT-4 and integrated with Bing's live web index, it is the most widely distributed AI assistant in the world by installation base — available to every Windows 11 user at no additional cost.

The Office 365 integration is where Copilot earns its name. In Word it drafts, edits, and rewrites documents on command. In Excel it generates formulas, creates charts, and analyzes data in natural language. In Outlook it summarizes email threads and drafts replies. In Teams it transcribes meetings, generates summaries, and answers questions about what was discussed. For organizations already paying for Microsoft 365, this represents significant productivity gains without additional software costs.

The full Microsoft 365 Copilot experience for businesses costs an additional $30 per user per month on top of the existing Microsoft 365 subscription. The consumer version available through Windows and Edge is free and covers most personal use cases. While the AI quality is generally solid, power users doing complex creative or technical tasks often find ChatGPT or Claude produces better output for standalone queries.
